How to Behave in a Restaurant: The Dos and Don’ts

If you’ve never been to the best restaurants downtown st pete before, the Dos and Don’ts of behaving in one can be confusing. What do you do when the server comes to your table? How do you order? And what should you avoid doing at all costs?

When you first arrive at the restaurant, give your name to the host or hostess and let them know how many people are in your party. They will then seat you at a table. Once you’re seated, a server will come to your table and introduce themselves. They will usually ask if you’ve been to the restaurant before and if you know what you’d like to order. If not, they will explain the menu and make suggestions.

Once you’ve decided what you’d like to order, the server will take your drink order first. It’s considered polite to wait until everyone in your party has been served before ordering food so that everyone can eat together. When ordering food, it’s perfectly acceptable to ask the server for recommendations.

Another important point of restaurant etiquette is to be aware of how you’re treating the waitstaff. They are there to serve you, but that doesn’t mean you should be rude or demanding. Please and thank you go a long way!

During your meal, the server will check on you periodically to see if you need anything else. Once you’re finished eating, they will bring you the bill. It’s customary to leave a tip for good service, which is typically 15-20% of the total bill.
